Sahara desert, Atlas Mountains, Agafay, Aït Ben Haddou and the Atlantic coast — the complete guide to private tours departing from Marrakech. Half-day to 8 days. Local guides, hand-picked riads, transparent pricing.
Marrakech as your basecamp for Morocco
Marrakech is where every great Morocco trip starts. The city sits at the geographic crossroads of the country — the High Atlas looming an hour to the south, the Sahara nine hours east, the Atlantic three hours west. Every iconic Moroccan landscape is reachable from a single riad rooftop.
Most travellers spend 7–10 days in Morocco. We typically build it as 2–3 days in Marrakech itself, 3 days for a Sahara desert loop, and 2–4 days for the Atlas, Imperial Cities or Atlantic coast. Below is a structured guide to every tour you can take from Marrakech, ordered by trip length.
Day trips from Marrakech
All four return to your Marrakech riad the same day. Mix and match across a single stay.

Tours from Marrakech — FAQ
What's the most popular tour from Marrakech?
The 3-day Sahara desert trip from Marrakech to Merzouga via Aït Ben Haddou and the Dades Gorges is the single most-booked Moroccan tour. It covers the most cinematic landscapes — High Atlas pass, fortified ksars, palm oases, gorges and the Erg Chebbi dunes — in one tight three-day loop.
Can I do the Sahara desert in a day trip from Marrakech?
Only the Agafay stone desert (45 minutes from Marrakech) and Zagora dunes (long single day, 8+ hours each way) are reachable in a day. For the real Sahara — Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga — you need a minimum of 3 days. Anyone selling a one-day Merzouga tour is misleading you.
What's the difference between Agafay and Sahara?
Agafay is a stone desert — a rocky, lunar-looking plateau 45 minutes from Marrakech. Sahara (Erg Chebbi) is golden sand dunes, 9 hours by road. Agafay is perfect for a quick sunset camp experience. Sahara is the iconic camel-trek-and-Berber-camp adventure you're picturing.
When is the best time for tours from Marrakech?
March–May and September–November are optimal — mild in Marrakech, cool in the Atlas, warm in the desert. December–February is great for the dunes (cool days, cold nights) and snow trekking in the Atlas. June–August is too hot for Sahara overnight trips but ideal for the Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Taghazout).
Are tours from Marrakech private or group?
We offer both. Private tours have your own driver, guide and vehicle — you control the pace, the stops and the music. Small-group tours (4–8 people) are 30–50% cheaper and follow a fixed itinerary. Most of our guests choose private for honeymoons, families and Sahara trips; small-group for shorter Atlas day trips.
